Future Values with Faye Lincoln
Sunday, September 22nd • Kol Ami
9:30am – 10:00am Light Breakfast
10:00am – 11:30am Lecture
The world appears to be in chaos and it’s hard to make sense of it! But underneath society’s accelerating change, driven by shifts in global geopolitics and changing technology, a new order is beginning to develop. Using powerful visuals, this lecture will help you connect the dots to understand the impact of these changes. An evolutionary framework of Jewish societal values creates the backdrop for identifying a set of future values to understand and drive technological change.
This last lecture in the series will focus on the ‘Ethics of Big Data’ including the dark side of AI, big data in the opioid crisis, and digital auction blocks.
The Ethics of Big Data—Can Values Guide Technology?
– The balance between creativity and accountability in technology
– The flow of big data in digital advertising—do you know where your data is going?
– When big data is used to sell pharmaceuticals—the opioid epidemic
– Should companies make money off your data?
– Should personal information used for big data analytics be a privacy right?
About the Author and Speaker, Faye Lincoln
Cultural ethicist Faye Lincoln has worked in high-level public policy and government relations for three decades. Over time, she developed a deep interest in the history and geopolitics of the Middle East and Europe. She has focused on the effects of converging religious, political, technological, and economic structures of society and culture. Lincoln views Biblical history through the lens of her second generation Holocaust experience. Her first book of insight is Values that Shape the World: Ancient Precepts, Modern Concepts. In her work, Lincoln dissects and intersects millennia of history in the context of the Jewish values that have driven and continue to drive the evolution and revolution of today’s highly-volatile world. The book ranked in Amazon's Top 10 in two vital categories, Jewish History and Christian Commentaries.
