Join Faye Lincoln every Sunday to study, "Antisemitism Rising: Ottoman Empire to the Birth of Israel."

Following the 1492 Spanish expulsion of Jews, many migrated to the Ottoman Empire, where they lived in prosperity. Palestine fell under the Ottomans for over four centuries, until 1924. By 1948 and the birth of Israel as a nation, antisemitism rose with the culmination of the Holocaust, then Arab dissension and invasions of Israel.

Travel through this historical period learning about oil development in the Ottoman Empire and Germany’s alliance to attain this resource, which became the catalyst for the Armenian genocide during WWI and the template for the holocaust during WWII. We will continue the trajectory of history as the British and French empires rise to power in the Middle East and their relationship with the Jews of Palestine. We will study
Jewish history in early Palestine, before Israel became a nation.

We will take a different route to understanding the Holocaust by learning about the Nazi’s economic strategy that undermined the Jews during WWII, and the role that IBM and other big businesses played during this time. We will study the involvement of the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem with Hitler’s armies and his role in developing early radical fundamentalist movements within the Arab nations which brought violence and war
against Israel to the Middle East.

We will follow the rise of the Arab nations and dictatorships associated with the impact of oil resources. This will be countered to the rise of Israeli democracy. We will study the early history of the Palestinian movement and their funding sources. Each war against Israel will be analyzed, with the resulting land and treaty negotiations.

Last, we will complete the backdrop of Israel’s current economic rise as a global leader in technology against the current backdrop of today’s war with Hamas and ongoing Middle East geopolitical tensions.
