Spotlight on the Community - Sunday, October 30th (SMPR) A Primer on Genetics for Ashkenazi Jews Janice Rinsky, M.S. (Licensed Certified Genetic Counselor) Janice, a genetic counselor since 1988, has worked in a number of prenatal, pediatric, cancer, and publish health settings. In addition, she has taught prenatal genetics for the University of Utah's Graduate Program in Genetic Counseling. Janice is currently working for Lineagen, a company that focuses on the genetics of autism. Janice's presentation will review genetic conditions peculiar to the Ashkenazi Jewish population, including why these gen changes (mutations) are more common in Jews, how genetic testing works, and the pros/cons of looking for gene mutations.
