Update from the Cantor Search Committee as of January 2021
The Cantor Search Committee is excited to report that we are making great progress! To date, 12 cantors have applied for our open position. Four have been declined and six are in the early stages of consideration. The remaining two have passed full committee interviews and are proceeding to a cantorial skills stage. Candidates that pass the cantorial skills stage will be further vetted with reference checks and follow up meetings for clarifications, etc. The final stage will be a weekend Shabbaton.

Traditionally, a finalist candidate would be invited to visit us for a Shabbaton weekend. However, as we are in the grip of the pandemic, the Shabbatons will consist of a series of virtual gatherings open to all congregants. Some will be services, some will be teaching sessions, others will include youth, and more.

Please stay tuned for further updates as we finalize dates for future Shabbatons!

Here is our process as of October 2020
Bria Mertens and David Bruce have agreed to co-chair the search committee. We are joined by a strong group of committee members that represent many different aspects of the Kol Ami community. They are: Cheryl Palmer, Don Strassberg, Eileen Davis, Evan Sanders, Jackie Osherow, Joelle Kanshepolsky, Joseph Aguilar, Josh Lipman, Matt Weinstein, and Susan Schulman.

We have received a charter and job description from the Kol Ami Board and will use this as the initial focusing tool. However, we would like to hear from each of you, too. What are your expectations for a cantor? What would you like to experience with our new cantor? Your thoughts and opinions are important to us and will also be anonymously shared with prospective candidates.

Please email your thoughts to us at KolAmiCantorSearch@gmail.com. This address reaches Bria and Dave. It is our honor and privilege to represent the Kol Ami community as we embark on this important task. We are committed to finding the best candidate for Kol Ami, and we look forward to bringing you additional updates as we work through this process.

A town hall was held on Tuesday, October 27th via Zoom
