This year, the CKA Social Action/Social Justice Committee has decided to focus on Homelessness and Hunger with volunteering events, direct advocacy, and learning all targeting these specific issues. Our goals are to give our community the opportunity for service while educating them about the interconnectedness between Judaism and these critical societal issues.
The Social Action/Social Justice Committee wishes to involve other aspects of our communities in our conversations and events about these issues including Shabbat Divrei Torah, young professional events, confirmation class activities, and other Religious School activities. We have events aimed at all demographics including families, young adults, empty nesters, and senior citizens. We believe that Jewish communities do not make the world better by talking about a better world but by going out and improving it directly inspired by our Jewish values.

Mitzvah Day is back with a meaningful new format and a powerful opportunity to put our values into action. This year, the Kol Ami Social Action Committee is partnering with the Food Justice Coalition for a hands-on day of service supporting Salt Lakers experiencing homelessness.
The Food Justice Coalition helps increase food security across Utah by preparing nutrient-dense, ready-to-eat meals, providing direct relief, advocating for change, and educating the community about healthy eating.
On Sunday morning, volunteers will gather at Kol Ami to prepare food and organize donated items. In the afternoon, we’ll bring those meals and supplies to a local park and distribute them directly to neighbors in need.
Please note: If you are interested in bringing your kids to participate, please sign up to help organize the donations and supplies at Kol Ami. While the supplies are being organized, kids will be able to create pictures and write cards for those receiving help. Unfortunately, the distribution at the park is not an appropriate activity for kids.
Choose how you’d like to help:
We’re excited about this new partnership and the chance to connect directly with people in our community. Whether you donate, prep, deliver, or distribute, your participation will help bring nourishment, dignity, and care to Salt Lakers experiencing homelessness.
