Our Religious School Director
Orit Sommer is the new Director of the Rafi Schwartz Religious School.
Orit brings a wealth of Judaic knowledge, leadership, and ruach to our religious school. During Orit's first year as Director for the coming 2009-2010 religious school, Orit will continue the tradition Rafi and our teachers have nurtured, making the classroom experience engaging, educational and focused on building a strong Jewish identity for each and every Kol Ami student. Most importantly, Orit is working to further develop our Jewish studies curriculum, and begin the national Jewish Supplementary School accreditation process.
Orit spent seven years in the Israel Defense Forces, commanding a platoon and leading special basic training for immigrants - achieving the rank of Captain. After earning a Bachelors degree in Psychology and Israeli History and a Masters degree in Social Psychology at The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Orit worked as an organizational development consultant. Most recently here in Salt Lake City, Orit helped launch and leads Utah's new Melton School, a Jewish Adult text-based education program. Orit and her husband Elad, have three children.
